Read and followed the KB article concerning this but keep getting "RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA") when auditing Windows 7 computers. In testing, I've verified that defender, firewall, our anti-virus, and security center are off. I've verified that Windows Management Instrumentation, RPC, RPC Locator, and DCOM are on. I've verified that the host name/IP address translates correctly.

Can you connect to the registry using regedit from a remote computer? If not verify the remote registry service is running.

If I enable Remote Registry, then yes. With other settings as tested above, I still get the error.

Hi smilne. In addition to the other steps listed, you have to enable the Remote Registry service on the target Windows 7 machine. I believe the error we had before was a result of our Symantec Network Threat Protection affecting the firewall settings. It was separate from our antivirus program that we disabled while diagnosing. You probably already know this but, unlike XP, when you disable the Win7 firewall, it will block all traffic.
