I am auditing machines using WTAudit as majority of our machines are in different locations. I am finding that machines that have Office 2013 installed do not have the keys retrieved when doing an audit whereas the keys for earlier versions such as 2010 and 2007 are correctly retrieved. Is there a fix for this?

Hi,

Is there any value coming back for the key or is it blank?

Also are the Office 2013 installations using retail keys or volume license keys?  Volume license keys are not stored on the computer so these won't be returned.

Thanks,

The field is just blank, or when you look in the software tab of computers it has a "-" in the key field which is the same as all other software installed on the computer. We are using the retail version, specifically Office 2013 Home and Business.

Hi,

I am able to reproduce this issue.  It seems the code is stored differently for office 2013 vs office 2010.

This will be on our list of items to fix in the next update.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Hi,

Has this issue been fixed in the latest 2014 release? There is no mention of it in the What's New document.

I'm sorry but this didn't get fixed in the last update.  I will keep it on the to-do list.

Thank you,

Do you know when the issue of not retrieving MSOffice 2013 keys will be resolved. Have now started installing MS Office 2016 and of course having the same issue.

Hi,

I have looked into this and it looks like starting with 2013 they changed the registry encryption method.  So as you noted the current audit only works for 2010 and older.

I found a way to get the last 5 characters of the install key, but have not come up with a way to get it all.

Here is the command to get the last 5 characters...

cscript "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\OSPP.VBS" /dstatus

I'll try to keep looking to see if I can figure out a way to get the whole key for the newer versions

Thanks,

Update...

Versions 9.3.x and newer now retrieve the last 5 digits of the product key for Office 2013 and 2016.  Getting the entire key is no longer possible as it is not stored anywhere on a computer.
